“Rich with nuance” is a good description for  Book Three, which includes her second and last Sonata for Violin & Piano, op. 63 in f# minor.  Also in this Book we have “Three Folk Songs for Violin & Piano”.  These are like a mini-study in the use of syncopation, each besting in beauty the one before; and then in the third piece in A B A form, after a tumultuous A section, breaks through with the violin in long sustained notes, syncopation here  telescoped,…with a gorgeous chordal river underneath. Spectacular!  “Grotesque” is a rather sardonic “tongue-in-cheek” piece, as if to say, “I can write dissonant music, too.”
